About
Hi, my name is Andrew Phoenix and I am the founder and chief creator at Roaring Unicorn Creations.
I am a Queer Author who is known for featuring LGBT and POC characters as the protagonists of my works. I was born in Rockford Illinois on the West Side (yep that kind of West Side haha), but have bounced everywhere from St. Louis to Nashville, KC, and Atlanta Georgia. I studied vocal performance in Opera in college with side studies in Illustration. I have been writing since I was twelve which was my coping mechanism to deal with the physical, mental, and emotional abuse I was getting from every corner of my life. My work is very inspired by everything I have survived through as a person. I write stories that shed light on difficult issues while empowering the kinds of readers who are not normally represented in the mainstream. Among my current successful works are my children’s book and audio book: The Forgotten Things (Currently being used in Rockford area schools and children’s therapy offices), A successful Fantasy Boy Love online novel on Tapas: Phoenix & Jackal, and a blog being featured with the SOS suicide prevention organization (Shatter Our Silence): Breakfast at Andrews. I have won several awards on Wattpad for my writing; including winning an episode writing contest for the Showtime original series The L-Word Generation Q, and have a short story featured in Archer Publishing’s Halloween Stories Anthology: Darker Than night, released Fall of 2020.
Roaring Unicorn Creations was born out of a need for a marketplace for my own works. I have worked for years to get signed with agents and publishing companies for my many books, comics, musicals, and illustrations. After hundreds of no's and being told enough times that "There isn't a market for your boundary pushing work", I decided to create one. My older brother Micah; who was a brilliant writer and multiple degree holder, was one of my biggest fans as a writer/composer and often commented on the level of mastery that I possessed with my craft. My brother died of brain cancer in April of 2020. One of the last things I promised him was that I wouldn't stop until my work was out in the world and changing lives like he believed it could.
Roaring Unicorn Creations has a catalog of books, musicals, and stories for every age and level of imagination. The stories are real and deal with real world issues both internal and external. The stories handle difficult topics through gentle language bathed in compassion. Laughter, excitement, thrill, and yes tears, will find you in our works. If you are tired of the same stories or are desperate to see a character who looks, thinks, and loves like you, then dive into our catalog and I believe you will find something you have been needing.
Remember that you are Beautiful, Special, and Important.
Every Star and Moon knows your name.
